My research is going pretty well. I have found 9 resources so far but I do need to find 2 more academic/ databases resources to meet the requirement of 6. On top of that I have already started writing my first draft to find areas where I may be lacking in research so I can find more research in that area, which sounds odd, but it is more for myself to help me find what I may have missed In my readings before hand or to see if anyone has any information either supports the context or if I found a rebuttal towards my subject. So far I have I found JSTOR to be very helpful for my research since it have provided so many journals and studies conducted on my subject.
ReplyDeleteI think it is a great idea to begin writing the paper while you are still researching so you know what you need and what you already have. It is a good way to organize your thoughts so you don't have too much information on one topic and not enough on another. I have not looked at JSTOR too much yet but I think I will give it a try as well.
DeleteI've begun to read articles on fsu.lib about Italy and incorporate them into my essay. I'm still struggling with whether I want to talk more about the tourist attractions in Italy or the economy and more of the historical governmental structure of the country. But I am discovering what sounds better in my essay as I research more about the different lifestyles of the Italian population. I plan on finishing up with finding all my sources and have my essay underway by the end of this week. Also having my theme for my essay for certain and laying out all my facts about Italy in a way for the reader to easily understand Italy's beautiful landscape and how the country runs today while also understanding how this country began historically.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like an interesting topic, and one that I would like to read because I went to Italy this past summer. I would talk about how the tourist attractions directly influence the economy, but also mention how the main tourist attractions are all historical places. Maybe you could go a little in depth to certain cities such as Rome and Florence, and explain that single cities historical significance. Definitely try and convey the landscape of Italy because it truly is beautiful across the whole country.
DeleteI think any of the two topics you mentioned would be really interesting to write about. You can maybe consider talking mainly about one of the two while still incoorporating the other briefly. In your research you can try to find how the history of a certain tourist attraction caused it to be so popular. Also you seem very organized in where you plan on being by the end of the week which is good!
DeleteSo far in my research I have began reading articles mostly from the FSU library page. The database seems to be very helpful so far when looking for articles related to breast cancer and its treatments. I need to continue to do research about the ethics behind each treatment and how they are portrayed in society. I am writing the paper in a narrative- research sense about my personal experience with how breast cancer affected my mother. I am waiting on a few more treatments that she did from my dad but once I get those I will be further along in what to look up and how it will affect my paper.
ReplyDeleteI think it's really cool that you are incorporating personal experience into your paper. That is going to strengthen your argument so much more and make you a very credible writer. I hope that you find sources to go along with what you want to talk about. Have you tried looking for a medical journal or database? I bet you would find a lot of sources that way. I think your paper sounds really interesting. I wish you luck with the rest of your research and luck writing your paper.
DeleteMy research is going really well. I have found a total of 5 sources, all of which are scholarly. My topic is legalizing same-sex marriage and how it will affect the LGBT community. I will talk about both sides of the argument and describe how various religions view same-sex marriage. I will also talk about homophobia and how that plays a role in people's opinions of same-sex marriage. I have found some really good sources so far and am very happy with the ones I have found. I've used the database GenderWatch to find all of my scholarly sources. I thought I might have trouble finding sources, but this database has been really helpful. I even found sources of things and ideas I am going to incorporate into my paper that I hadn't found before. So far, my research is going quite well.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like your research is really coming along! I think it is a really good idea to approach the topic in the way that you are, with addressing both sides of the issue and how different belief systems and values may influence one's opinion. Legalizing gay marriage is a great topic, and will be something you should have no trouble making an argument on; and with the incorporation of your scholarly sources, you will establish yourself as a credible source and will only make your argument stronger.
DeleteMy research is going really well, I am highly interested in the subject matter so working on this paper hasn't been a laborious task at all. I found that making an outline of my paper really helped me to organize my thoughts, as well as organize my research. It's given me a good idea of what research I need to collect, some areas my research or discussion may be lacking in, etc. I have found the JSTOR database to be incredibly useful! I am doing my research on stem cells, and there have been many articles posted on the subject matter. While this leaves me with an abundance of resources at my disposal, it has made it a little harder to sort through it all. Skim reading, as we discussed in class, has really expedited the process. So far, I am really happy with the progress I am making, and feel confident I will be able to start my first draft soon.
ReplyDeleteHey Sarah, seems like your research is going well! It is a really good idea that you made an outline of your paper to keep your thoughts organized. For me, stem cells would be such a hard topic to write about, but since you are interested in the subject and have found multiple resources that support your research I can tell your paper will turn out very accurate and interesting.
DeleteMy research is going pretty well so far. I've been using JSTOR and Academic Search Complete from the FSU library page for my sources so far, both of which I have found to be very useful. I think that my topic of celebrities and how their representation affects society is one that can be seen from many different points of view and therefore there is a lot of articles that are on this topic. I plan to touch up on a lot of different themes in this subject such as expectations, trends, etc. and talking about how they all impact the general public.
ReplyDeleteI think you're covering a really interesting topic for your research project. The plan to touch up on a lot of different themes in the subjects seems smart and allows the reader to really understand your topic. I feel like your paper would be very interesting to read.
DeleteThus far, my research has been good but shown some challenges. My topic is about racial stereotypes in advertising and how those stereotypes effect the advertiser as well as future sales. Since so many people watch T.V. advertisements and everyone is aware that racism has been a talked about subject in America for decades, it is easy to assume there would be a vast array of research that could give information about the subject. Surprisingly, I found more sources that go against my claim of eliminating racism from advertising then sources in favor of eliminating these stereotypes. JSTOR has been my main database so far and using it I have gathered the most relevant information to my topic. I have found multiple articles with claims and counterclaims that express interest in the way a racist add can effect its audience. I seem to be on a good track and am happy with my progress. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a really interesting topic! It is surprising that most sources don't support your claim but I still think you have a good argument and I'm sure you'll find other sources that agree with your claim. I have also mainly been using JSTOR but maybe if you try other databases you'll have better luck finding sources that support your argument.
DeleteMy research has been going well. JSTOR has been really helpful in finding sources that cover specific topics that I want to mention in my paper. My paper is about how prisons in America undermine the wellbeing and rehabilitation of inmates. I wanted to cover specific topics like abuse, solitary confinement, and rehab programs and using JSTOR has made it really easy to find credible sources that discuss these topics. The only difficult part has been reading through these sources and finding the most important information that can best strengthen my argument. Other than that doing research for my topic has been really easy especially because there are a lot of sources that relate to my topic so I have a lot of information available to me that can support my argument for my research topic.
ReplyDeleteMy research is going... Its kind of hard for me to find any "academic" sources about what certain NBA players do outside of playing the game. Ive been looking on JSTOR and Google Scholar for any academic sources but I haven't found that many. I guess I can use Google to find the basics of what they have done off the court, but it will be hard to find that information on the databases. If any one has a better database that they have been using that they think might be helpful, I would really appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteI've had some trouble finding interesting articles on Italy too on those websites. A lot of the articles are very lengthy. But sometimes online blogs are my go to, what people have written about certain topics is helpful to get a feel for what you want to include in your research paper. Although some websites can not be very reliable a lot are and are very interesting to include in a paper.
